Implemented website security fix for Triangle area manufacturing clients in North Carolina after a weekly security bulletin featured a new WordPress security vulnerability. It showed "an unauthenticated blind SSRF in the pingback feature... To exploit this vulnerability, an attacker would utilize WordPress pingbacks... in combination with other vulnerabilities."

Our fix for WordPress websites included disabling pingbacks on existing website blog posts plus disabling pingbacks for all future blog posts. Additionally, WordPress plugins were updated as part of our regular monthly site management plans to provide additional security to our client companies.

Malware Attack Stopped on Client Website

Fixed malware insertion on the WordPress website of a custom manufacturing client. Using Jetpack's Security Scan service for on-demand and daily malware scans, the malware was flagged and the infected files were discovered. As a Jetpack Agency Partner, Jetpack tech support guided us in disabling and neutralizing the threat. Additionally, using Jetpack activity logs which we had installed on the client website to record and time-stamp all site changes, we identified and fixed the specific plugin that had been hijacked to allow the malware entry.
